About Chin Filler
Chin fillers are a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that involves injecting dermal fillers into the chin area to enhance its appearance. This procedure can reshape and redefine the chin, improving facial symmetry and harmony.
The chin and jawline are defining features of the face and have a major impact on the overall appearance of an individual. Often having a “weak” or “small” chin is undesirable and can lead to a loss of confidence in one’s appearance. At Flawless MedSpa in Las Vegas, Nevada, we offer non-surgical chin augmentation to help restore your confidence and improve the appearance of your face.
Chin filler refers to a variety of treatments used to alter the dimensions of the chin. The primary goal is to make it stand out more by adding height, width, or projection to the natural jawline. The main forms of Chin filler are surgical, where a plastic material is implanted in the chin where it adheres to the bone, or Non-Surgical Augmentation, which involves injecting fillers to enhance the chin’s appearance.
The goal of chin filler also referred to as genioplasty, is to improve the balance of a patient’s facial features. Mostly this involves addressing the shape and size of the patient’s chin but can also involve work being done on the neck to achieve an overall aesthetic balance. The result should be a chin that, when viewed in profile, extends to the end of the lower lips. Often the results of this treatment will be subtle, more closely mimicking weight loss in the face, and will not look fake or artificial in any way. The specialist performing your augmentation will work with you to determine how to best match the augmentation to the natural look of your face to avoid such problems.
Recovery
While Chin filler can have a dramatic effect on the appearance of your facial features, the recovery time is remarkably short. There are few side effects to the treatment and while there will often be swelling it should subside within one week, with most pain and discoloration ceasing after just 3-5 days. These quick recovery times compared to the augmentation’s dramatic effect make it a popular procedure compared to more invasive and obvious facial treatments. Sometimes the filler can feel hard and unnatural at first, but within a week or two it should start to mesh with the body and achieve a more natural feel.
Our award-winning treatments and service have been covered in Cosmopolitan, In Touch, Star, TLC, People, and more. Our founder, Melanie, has even been featured on 90 Day Fiancé and E! News.
After receiving chin fillers, it’s important to follow the aftercare tips to ensure the best results:
- Avoid Touching or Massaging the Area: Try not to touch, massage, or put pressure on the treated area for at least 24 hours to prevent displacing the filler.
- Avoid Strenuous Activity: Refrain from intense physical activity, such as heavy exercise or sports, for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. This helps reduce swelling and bruising.
- No Heat Exposure: Avoid hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, or direct exposure to heat sources.
- Stay Upright: Try to keep your head elevated for the first 4 hours post-treatment to reduce swelling.
- Ice Packs for Swelling: You may use a cold compress or ice pack (wrapped in a clean cloth) on the treated area to help minimize swelling and bruising, but avoid applying the ice directly to your skin.
These tips will help ensure your recovery is smooth and that your results are long-lasting. Always follow your provider’s specific aftercare instructions for the best results.
Skincare and massage
Your provider will determine whether any specific adjustments or massage techniques are needed based on your treatment.
After your chin filler procedure:
- Be gentle when washing your face or applying skincare products.
Sleeping position
After getting chin filler, it is generally recommended to sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated during the initial recovery period. This position helps reduce unnecessary pressure on the treated area and allows the filler to settle properly. Sleeping face down or resting your chin directly against a pillow may cause discomfort and place pressure on the injection sites while they are healing.
Helpful sleep tips after chin filler include:
- Sleep on your back whenever possible during the first few nights.
- Use an extra pillow to keep your head slightly elevated if comfortable.
- Keep your pillowcases clean to reduce the risk of irritation around the treatment area.
Exercise
Intense workouts can increase blood flow, swelling, and discomfort around the treated area. Light activities are usually easier to resume, but your provider may recommend waiting before returning to high-intensity exercise.
During your recovery, consider these recommendations:
- Avoid strenuous workouts, heavy lifting, and high-impact activities immediately after treatment.
- Limit activities that cause excessive sweating or facial flushing.
- Gradually return to your regular exercise routine based on your provider’s guidance.
- Stay hydrated and follow all aftercare instructions.
When to contact your injector
While mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising can be normal after chin filler treatment, certain symptoms should be discussed with your injector. Paying attention to how your treated area changes during recovery allows concerns to be addressed promptly and helps support a safe treatment experience.
Contact your injector if you notice:
- Increasing or severe pain that does not improve.
- Significant changes in skin color near the treatment area.
- Excessive swelling that worsens instead of improving.
- Signs of infection, such as increasing warmth, redness, or drainage.
- Unusual symptoms that concern you during the healing process.
Results
Because they do not involve an implant being grafted onto the bone, non-surgical chin augmentation will eventually be re-absorbed by the body and will require maintenance to keep its appearance. The amount of time this takes depends on the type of filler used. Voluma, a type of acid usually used on the cheeks, and Radiesse, another popular filler that uses naturally occurring calcium hydroxyapatite, are two of the fillers that are known to last the longest. Filler that is drawn directly from the patient’s own body, such as fat tissue, will often be reabsorbed more quickly. The amount of time it takes for the body to reabsorb the filler depends on the metabolism of the patient, with a high metabolic rate absorbing the filler much faster. However, most non-surgical treatments usually last a year or longer before requiring re-injection.
