About PRP Injections

Common questions asked by clients: What are PRP injections, and how do they work? How long do the results of PRP injections last? Is there any downtime after PRP injections? How soon can I see results from PRP injections? Is PRP suitable for all skin types?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a regenerative medicine technique that utilizes the body’s natural healing processes. It involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient, separating it to isolate platelets (which contain growth factors), and then injecting this concentrated platelet solution into the injured area to stimulate tissue repair and reduce inflammation.

  • Whole blood
  • The blood is placed in a centrifuge
  • After centrifugation
  • Platelet-poor plasma
  • Platelet-rich plasma
  • Red blood cells

When injected, the concentrated platelets in PRP release growth factors, which are proteins that stimulate cell growth and repair. These growth factors help reduce inflammation, promote the formation of new blood vessels and tissues, and ultimately accelerate the healing process.

Conditions treated

  • Wound Healing: Diabetic ulcers, chronic wounds
  • Cosmetic Procedures: To reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture
  • Hair Loss: To stimulate hair growth
  • Orthopedic Injuries: Tendonitis (e.g., tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow), ligament sprains, muscle strains, osteoarthritis, rotator cuff tears

Benefits

  • Reduced Pain: Can significantly decrease pain associated with certain conditions.
  • Improved Function: May improve range of motion and function in injured joints.
  • Reduced Need for Surgery: In some cases, PRP therapy may help avoid the need for surgery.
  • Faster Recovery: Can accelerate the healing process.

Candidates

Good candidates for PRP therapy often have chronic musculoskeletal conditions that haven’t responded well to conservative treatments. These may include individuals with tendinopathies (like tennis or golfer’s elbow), ligament sprains, muscle strains, osteoarthritis, or those recovering from certain surgeries.
